It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the symposium ‘Order in Context’, organized by Professor Tanja van der Lippe. The keynote lecture will be given by Professor Robert Sampson, Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences at Harvard University and Director of the Boston Area Research Initiative. Professor Sampson will receive an honorary doctorate from Utrecht University during the dies natalis celebration on March 29, 2016. Admission is free but due to limited number of places advance registration is required (please register before March 23).

What effect does social context have on order within societies? Contexts of inequality, segregation, and mistrust can weaken the social mechanisms and processes that generate order. This symposium explores the ways in which order is produced within certain social contexts, and what the consequences are for crime, inequality and segregation.
